News and Insights For Owners and Fans of Amazon.com’s New Kindle Wireless eBook Reader

Save $100 on Your Amazon Kindle

If you’re in the market for an Amazon Kindle as well as for a new credit card, this offer might be of interest to you.  Essentially, you apply for a credit card at the Amazon.com website and, if approved, you’re able to get $100 off the regular retail price of the Kindle.

That means that, rather than paying $359, which is the regular retail price, you’d be able to get your Kindle for $259.

To take advantage of this offer, just go to http://snipurl.com/3jl95 .

Noted Atlantic magazine author (and devoted blogger), James Fallows, has more positive words about the Kindle in a recent posting.  Among the benefits of Kindle he addresses, he speaks highly of the ability to import DOC and PDF files into the Kindle (either for a slight fee or for free) and of the ease with which documents can be read on the Kindle.

  • One-Page Individual Review

This one-page review by Glishara is an inviting, balanced take on the Kindle.  At first, physical books seemed like an absolute necessity, but now — having bought and used the Kindle — there are lots of advantages to the electronic world as well.  On balance, a vote in favor of Kindle.

  • Kindle - A $1 Billion Property?

According to the U.S. News & World Reports, one analyst predicts that Amazon.com will pull in $1 billion in revenue from Kindle in 2010 - up from prior estimates of $450 - 750 million.  That’s very impressive.

  • TechCrunch reports that Amazon.com has sold some 240,000 Kindle units since the Kindle was introduced to the market in November 2007.  It also speculates in a posting entitled “Kindle 2.0 Coming Around October 2008” that a new Kindle model will hit the stores in time for the holiday season.  It looks like the Kindle is becoming a permanent part of the book-reading world.

  • Atlantic’s Fallows Likes Kindle

In a recent posting on his Atlantic Magazine blog, accomplished writer/journalist/techie James Fallows has given his thumbs-up on the Kindle, noting that the Kindle is usable outside of the US since books can easily be downloaded over the Internet and transferred to the Kindle.  This is not quite as simple as wirelessly downloading books to the Kindle as is possible in the US, but it still allows the Kindle to be useful outside of the US.

He also notes that the Kindle is a good generic document reader since it allows him to import lengthy documents or manuscripts (for later reading) very conveniently and inexpensively.

The one drawback he forsees is the possible displeasure of his wife at seeing him firing up “yet another digital device.”

If you haven’t yet bought your own Amazon Kindle, you can do so here with just a few clicks of your mouse.

  • One financial analyst speculates that the Amazon Kindle will do for ebooks what the iPod did for digital music — expand the market enormously.  According to this analyst, Amazon.com could sell more than $2.5 billion in eBooks by 2012.  That’s a lot of eBooks!  And, that’s not even taking into account any boost sales might be by the introduction of an Amazon Kindle 2.0 at some later point.
