News and Insights For Owners and Fans of Amazon.com’s New Kindle Wireless eBook Reader

More Kindles are now starting to show up on eBay, perhaps because more people are receiving their Kindles from Amazon and can’t resist getting the premium for selling on eBay.  It’ll be interesting to see at which point prices come to rest once Kindles are more widely available.  Presumably,  once Amazon is caught up with its deliveries, the eBay clearing price should be close to the Amazon retail price.

  • Kindle sold for $999 on eBay

A Kindle was just sold on eBay for $999. It was as a Buy-It-Now transaction. That’s a premium of $600 over the retail price — presumably for the ability to have and use the Kindle now rather than wait until Amazon.com restocks.

  • A second Kindle was just listed on eBay with a minimum bid of $399 and a reserve price. There are no bids on it yet.

The seller says that the Kindle just arrived in the mail, so maybe the dearth of Kindles on eBay is a result of their not have yet (by and large) been delivered by Amazon.

It will be interesting to see how bids go for this Kindle. It has only a two-day auction period (as opposed to the other Kindle which still has nine days or so to go and already has a bid of $810).

  • eBay Kindle Up to $810

Amazingly, the one and only Kindle on eBay at the moment has been bid up to $810 and the Reserve Price still has not been met. This bid is twice the retail price of the Kindle.

  • The only Amazon Kindle on eBay at the moment has a bid of $710 and this has not even hit the Reserve Price yet.  So, it appears that the seller of this Kindle will make a profit of at least $311.

That’s a considerable premium for a newly-released piece of electronic equipment.  What’s even more interesting is that this sort of premium is not pulling other sellers onto eBay.

Kindle owners must truly love their Kindles.

  • There is now one Kindle for sale on eBay.  The current price bid is $610 and the item hasn’t even hit its reserve price.  The auction goes for nine more days so it should be interesting to watch.  It still seems surprising that there are so few Kindles on eBay.  And, with this auction, we see a bid that is $211 above the current retail price for the Kindle.
