On its home page, Amazon.com announces its goal — starting a few weeks from now — to be able to send out newly-ordered Kindles on the same day they’re ordered. At present, Amazon.com is supplying Kindles on a first-come, first-served basis, which in some cases has resulted in a waiting period of up to six weeks, according to Amazon.com.

This ability to order and receive a Kindle promptly is likely to enhance the popularity of Kindles.

  • Silicon Alley Insider speculates that Amazon.com may be selling between 5,000 and 10,000 eBooks per day.  Sounds like a lot and would seem to confirm the success of the Amazon Kindle.
