News and Insights For Owners and Fans of Amazon.com’s New Kindle Wireless eBook Reader

Archive for the ‘eBay’ Category

A second Kindle was just listed on eBay with a minimum bid of $399 and a reserve price. There are no bids on it yet.

The seller says that the Kindle just arrived in the mail, so maybe the dearth of Kindles on eBay is a result of their not have yet (by and large) been delivered by Amazon.

It will be interesting to see how bids go for this Kindle. It has only a two-day auction period (as opposed to the other Kindle which still has nine days or so to go and already has a bid of $810).

  • eBay Kindle Up to $810

Amazingly, the one and only Kindle on eBay at the moment has been bid up to $810 and the Reserve Price still has not been met. This bid is twice the retail price of the Kindle.

  • The only Amazon Kindle on eBay at the moment has a bid of $710 and this has not even hit the Reserve Price yet.  So, it appears that the seller of this Kindle will make a profit of at least $311.

That’s a considerable premium for a newly-released piece of electronic equipment.  What’s even more interesting is that this sort of premium is not pulling other sellers onto eBay.

Kindle owners must truly love their Kindles.

  • There is now one Kindle for sale on eBay.  The current price bid is $610 and the item hasn’t even hit its reserve price.  The auction goes for nine more days so it should be interesting to watch.  It still seems surprising that there are so few Kindles on eBay.  And, with this auction, we see a bid that is $211 above the current retail price for the Kindle.

  • No Kindles Now on eBay

Interestingly, there are no Kindles for sale on eBay right now.  There had been one, but according to the eBay results of that sale, it was sold as a “Buy It Now” item.  The starting bid had been $499 for the Kindle — $100 above the current retail price.

While there has been speculation that the dearth of Kindles on eBay is the result of each Kindle being “personalized” to a specific Amazon.com account, it is still surprising that Kindles aren’t showing up on eBay.

Only time will tell what this means, but it’s possible that all the Kindle owners are happy with their purchase (at least at the moment) and aren’t willing to sell their new baby for the $100 (or so) profit they might be able to get on eBay.

  • Kindle Scarce on eBay

A quick check of eBay listings shows only one instance of the Amazon Kindle.  It has a “Buy Now” price of $499 - considerably higher than the original $399 price asked by Amazon.com.  Time will tell if this higher price reflects true demand.  eBay details here.
