“Buy It Now” prices on eBay are showing a slight downward trend.  And, the number of Kindles on eBay is rising.  At present there are 32 being auctioned.

While the supply of Kindles is increasing on eBay, “Buy It Now” prices are still high, ranging from $900 to $1500. If you want a Kindle right away, you must be willing to pay a premium price.

Given that supplies are limited, that Amazon has publicly stated that it won’t be delivering new Kindles before Dececmber 25 and that the Kindle is likely to be a highly desirable Christmas gift, it’ll be interesting to see what happens to Kindle prices on eBay as Christmas gets closer.

On the one hand, supplies in the market are likely to increase as Amazon completes orders already in the pipeline.  On the other hand, as the Kindle becomes more widely know, demand for it is likely to increase.  It will be interesting to watch Kindle prices on eBay over the next few weeks.

As this is written, there are 17 Kindles on eBay.  It’s probably that more and more are being delivered and the new owners want to take advantage of the current scarcity premium on Kindles.

One bibliophile, and used book store owner, has a positive review of the Kindle. He views it more as a supplement to books rather than as a replacement for books. And, he envisions new and different uses for the Kindle down the road.

If you haven’t already ordered your Kindle from Amazon, it’ s now too late if you want a Kindle for Christmas.  This may help to explain the meteoric prices being bid at eBay.  Today, there is a high bid of $999 for a Kindle and the auction still has eight hours to go.
